MYTH: SUGAR DIRECTLY CAUSES CAVITIES
CAPTION:
This is a common misconception. Sugar itself doesn't directly cause cavities.
But rather is the acidic environment it creates in your mouth.
When you indulge in sugary foods or drinks, the bacteria naturally present in your mouth use these sugars as fuel, rapidly multiplying. They release a waste product – acid. This acid is what weakens and erodes your tooth enamel, the hard outer layer protecting the teeth.
Now, we're all aware that the enamel is incredibly strong, but it's not invincible. The constant acid attack from bacteria can weaken and demineralize the enamel. This weakens your teeth and makes them more susceptible to cavities, essentially those tiny holes you see that form in weakened enamel.
Sugar may not be the main cause, but it certainly contributes to the risk of cavities.
The key lies in moderation and maintaining a good oral hygiene routine.
Enjoy your favorite treats, but make sure to brush and floss regularly.
Remember, a healthy mouth is the best defense against cavities.

ARE OVER-THE-COUNTER TEETH WHITENING PRODUCTS AND AT-HOME TREATMENT EFFECTIVE?
CAPTION:
You’ve probably seen a lot of teeth whitening products being advertised online and sold everywhere.
Here's what we know- In-office whitening is undeniably effective, OTC teeth whitening products may be an affordable option but the progress takes slower and although generally safe, still comes at a risk(uneven results, damaging the teeth/gums etc.)
Remember: There is no one-size fits all. Every smile is unique, and what works for your friend might not be best for you. Seek help from your trusted dentist. They can assess your oral health, dental history, and desired shade to recommend the safest and most effective whitening method for you.
At Renova Dental, we don't subscribe to quick-fixes. We want what's best for you.
Share your whitening experiences (good or bad!) in the comments!
